    66 427/425 L72 Original Intake End Seals

Re 1966 427/425 L72 - Were the end seals for intake manifold originally cork ? If so - where can they be purchased ?

they were rubber and come with generic intake manifold gasket sets. however, what you'll get from todays gasket sets won't have a rectangular rubber tab projecting horizontally beyond the engine block/intake maifold. these rubber tabs had GM embossed on them. these original seals are to be found in NOS GM intake gasket sets and are scarce. mike

I'd like to see a picture of the original gaskets to which you refer. I assume the rectangular tabs protrude from the main side gaskets - not the small end gaskets. The 66 Chassis Manual has a picture but is not clear. Any ideas where to see these ?

No, it's the rubber end seals that Mike is referring to. The "GM" trademark is embossed on the small "flaps" that extend over the ends of the block. If I recall correctly, the one on the front seal ends up being positioned inside the lifter valley and, thus, unseen. The one on the rear has the GM-embossed flap on the outside of the block and, theoretically, "seeable".

its the front tabs that are visable. rears can or can't be viewed but most originals i'v e seen protrude at the rear. mike
