While I was Clearwater Florida on business, I took the opportunity to visit Vette Brakes, Inc., in St. Petersburg. My friend Scott from Honeywell and I found the company and visited with Gary. Gary asked us if we would like a tour of their manufacturing facility. As it turns out Honeywell did some testing on the caliper sleeves. I was pleasantly surprised because when I think of brake repair, I think of a messy area. However, their manufactuing floor was well organized, clean and safe. The work flow process was well laid out and the quality control testing left nothing to chance. Gary provided a complete show and tell on the brake process and also showed us the manufacturing process, testing and samples of the one piece fiberglass spring and all of the test benches and equipment for the brake process and the springs. Since I was interested in having my calipers remade, he showed me how customer items are controlled to insure that those items were indeed returned to the correct customer.
The tour was an unexpected treat. Maybe I am the only person who really appreciates seeing an artful manufacturing process but it was the highlight of my trip. The guys have the process down to a science. I really appreciate Gary taking the time to show off his operation.
