    replating vacuum actuators

Yesterday I took my headlight and wiper door actuators along with some other parts to the local plater for replating but he said that he couldn't do the actuators. He says that there is no way to keep the acids from entering the canisters even if the openings are pluged. Also assuming that they could be properly plugged, he says that they will then just float around in the tank and not be properly plated anyways.

Is there any way to replate these or am I forced to buy repro or NOS?

He also said that my condenser(for the blower motor) could be replated but that it wouldn't likely work for the same reason of acid getting in. What are my options with this part.

    Thanks

    Re: replating vacuum actuators

I have several of these actuators replated over the years. The only thing that we did was to weight them enough to make them sink in the platers tank. Used rubber cap plugs over the openings. Down side is that we paid by the pound for plating and the weights added considerably to the cost

      Greg:
I have replated several of these using the Caswell system with great success. I used small corks inserted into the openings to prevent liquid from getting into the unit and then used wood to wedge the piece down under the bath. Hope this helps.

Dave Resheske did my headlight actuators a couple years ago. I'm happy with them.
