I'm considering installing the electronic conversion kit by LectricLimited on a '66 small block(350hp)with a points type distributor. Other than, of course, not being stock, is there any dissadvantage to this? The kit sounds like it is undetectable after installation and uses only the existing wiring. The engine itself is factory original and has never been rebuilt.

Re: LECTRIC LIMITED ELECTRONIC DISTRIBUTOR CONVERS
The kit is undetectable unless you are judging. The judges will lift your points adjusting window and see no points. No big deal for a casual cruise-type of inspection. Oth, when your electronic module craps out you are stuck. Points are easily replacable, cheap and very reliable. They will even work when badly worn and at least allow you to limp home. Just my humble opinion.
I have heard some good things about the electronic coversions but there seems to be a mixed bag on the Pertronics. Patrick Hulst, didn't you go this route?

Re: LECTRIC LIMITED ELECTRONIC DISTRIBUTOR CONVERS
Gary,
Yes, I have the Pertronix Ignitor II with the Pertronix Flamethrower coil on my 71. While I've also heard the "horror stories" of them failing at just the wrong time I have had no problems with mine at all over the last 2 years since I installed it.
Some doubt that it's really as beneficial as the advertisements claim. That's probably true, but it sure hasn't hurt any.

I have first hand experiance
I had the PetronixII and coil on my 65 small block. It was in Nashville at the 50th anniversary. We were at a Starbucks fortunetly right across the street from my hotel. I had my tools and a VOM meter- but no spare set of points. So Sunday morning I was able to get the Hotel Bus to take me to the Auto Parts store.
Petronix replaced the part w/ no problem and I'm still running it today. But I'm carry the spare points in the glovebox-all the time.
I know I'll open up a can of worms BUT it idles smoother & starts quicker w/ the electronic ignition.- Top

Re: LECTRIC LIMITED ELECTRONIC DISTRIBUTOR CONVERS
I installed a Pertronics unit in my 57 and drove it for a year. It failed in a Sonic Drive In on a Saturday cruise night. Embarassing and not at all popular with my wife who had to wait with everyone standing around while I installed points so we could get home.
Pertronics replaced the unit without a problem, so no complaint there.
Carry a set of points, condenser and tools to make the change.

Advantages to Pertronix
I changed over to Pertronix. Whew! Saved a lot of maintenance. I used to have to spend 10 minutes every couple of years either adjusting the dwell or replacing the points. Glad I got rid of that nasty chore. Now I have more time to clean the car with Q-tips and change the Mobil 1 every 500 miles.- Top
