hello vett folks: I need some help and you are the ones I trust so here goes: How do you search out the original dealership or equiptment if your mid-year hase no tank sticker or any information except vin. number? Where in the world do you start if you live in canada and your 64 came from the U.S.A. ?

This question is often asked. There are many discussions in the archives on it and these are, or soon will be, available for search.


I can tell you this, though: you'd be a lot better off if you lived in the US and the car was originally delivered in Canada. Or, if you live in Canada and the car was originally delivered in Canada. As I expect you know, there is better information apparently available from GM-Canada, than that available from "GM-US".

This worked for me in three states: Get the name of the state department that handles auto registrations (by phoning Information in the capital of the state). Call that department and tell them you own the car and would like a trace on the vin. They may send you a form to fill out and request verification of your ownership. For a small fee they search their archives and send you photostats of previous titles. Illinois and Missouri worked that way, but Iowa required me to contact the county seat of the county that titled the car. I was successful, and have a copy of all seven previous titles - back to the selling dealer.

Jay, the information is out there. As many of the NCRS guys know, law enforcement can find you your original selling dearler. With enough money and long hours of effort you can find out lots of information. It's really a lot of work and can be very time consuming. It can also be a lot of fun and very rewarding. Sort of like a treasure hunt. Many,many of the U.S. NCRS members have found out this information about their cars. See if you can get someone to talk. You could also try Customs Canada.They keep records of all cars brought in legally. Good luck and have fun.
