Lens screws on my 68 corvette?

I would greatly appreciate some feed back on the tail light lens screws for my 68 corvette. I also found similar screws in the front turn signal lens. So, I am trying to figure out which one's were original to my car. It seems the the lens screws to the tail lights are the same for the front turn signal lights, at least they work in both places. So, this is what I found...................

I found 6 chrome screws with starter tips on them (no threads for the first 1/8 inch. I suspect they are original to the tail lights.

I found 2 that are chrome (regular looking screws, no starter tips). I suspect they may have originally belonged in the front turn signal lenses.

I found 6 plain screws that appear to be silver but not chrome.

I found 2 black screws that obviously don't belong. All screws where the correct size.

I know this seems picky but any idea which one's are original to my car?

    Thanks in advance, Terry

    And the answer is?!

The original tail light screws on the 68 were chrome but they had tips on them that were not threaded to help locate the screw in the threaded hole. These can actually be seen once they are installed on the car. Woopee, everyone was just waiting to know that one. Later, Terry

Trivia - In the plants, those were called "dog-point" screws

I wonder if there is still a source for them. I will have to look around. Thanks, Terry

Hey, thanks so much for taking the time to do that. I really appreciate it. I know it is just a small detail but I get off on the challenge of making it right. I do have some chrome screws that match both descriptions so now I will put them where they belong. I still need some more of the tail light lens screws with the dog nose tips.

I took my tail light housings and lenses out the othe day and have started to clean them up. The sort of told a history of the car. There looked like there was about 4 layers of different colored paint on it. I am almost certain my car was painted red, white and blue at one time. Weird?! I was lucky in the sence that no one really sanded down to the original primer and just kept adding colors? But I have found a pretty matalic red and blue and a plain white. My poor car...
            Thank you, Terry

Re: Lens screws on my 68 corvette?

Terry I have just removed two screws from one of my original owner 68's taillights. The screws are chrome and measuring the screws including the head, the length is about 3/4 inch. The two screws have the starter end with no threads. The starter length is about 1/16-1/8 inch. Both of the removed screws are not exactly alike in minute detail, one screw has just a hair more starter length area than the other. The one screw that I removed from the turn signal lens is threaded all the way with no starter tip. This screw is chrome and is shorter than the rear tailllamp screws, but ony by the amount of the starter tip area of the two removed rear taillamp screws.
