    Engine Stamping F02I3RE

I have a 1965 Roadster with a 327 that has this engine stamping on the pad F02I3RE. Is this even a Corvette 327? It does not match any numbers used for a 1965 Corvette 327. Any help would be appreciated...Doug

More number information from your engine would be helpful in pin pointing the year of your engine and horsepower.

RE is a Corvette engine. The RE suffix was used in Corvette from 1962 through 1964. In '62 and 3 the RE engine was the 340hp solid lifter carbuertated engine. In '64 there were updates in the intake manifold, cam, heads and carb and the hp was rated at 365.

F0321RE= Flint March 21st RE will depend upon the model year.

What is the casting date on the passenger side bell-housing flange?

Dan... in the cool clear north where it's always 80 and the palms gently sway

      Doug,

Your engine is a corvette 327 and the pad #'s stand for F= Flint Michigan, 02= the month of assembly (February), 13= day of the month, RE= 340 or 365 horsepower depending if the block is a 62,63, or 64. The NCRS corvette specifications guide is a great reference for you to help identify parts for your 65.

It should also have a VIN derivative stamped on the outboard half of the pad; the first digit of that number will indicate the model year of the engine.

Nancy, are you serious about doing a trade? Do you think my motor was a from a 63? There was the letter I in the the stamping number before the 3 does this mean the 3 is the year model?

We can definately talk about a trade...

              Doug,

You mentioned in your profile that the car has a big block hood. I would suggest you investigate the chance that this car may have been a 396 car. The tell tale information is probably still on the car. Others with 65 cars know more than me and can tell you where to look so you will know which way to proceed. If the car is a original big block car I think it may be a good idea installing a 396 instead of a 327.

Tim, my BB hood is the one with the scoup in the front. Acoording to everything I've heard this hood was only used on 67's. That leads me to beleive that some guy put this hood on sometime between 68-69 for looks before my dad bought it in 70.

The 396 hood did not have the scoup appearance ony the bubble look right?

                    Correct

'65 and '66 BB's used the 'power bulge' hood. Subtle differences between the first version ('65) and the second ('66) with the later version having support for BOTH RH and LH hood support connections and cutouts in the LH front outer lip enabling access to install/remove speed nuts that affixed the '66 trim badge.
