Damn Snow! Need fiberglass & bumper repair sug

Here's the scene: icy steep driveway, Suburban parked in 4WD with emergency brake on at top of hill, corvette parked safetly in (open) garage, husband out shoveling the white stuff... Suburban SLIDES down hill (backwards) into garage and into corvette (and other junk like tablesaws etc...), while my husband hangs onto the front bumper trying to stop it! ...though admittedly there is some comic element to this. :D Nobody was hurt fortunately. :)

Here's the damage: dented bumper, ripped fiberglass in left rear with vertical stress crack extending above where the bumper will "hide" it, split horizontal seam on back side, paint nicks above and to left of tail lights, scrunch on lower panel inboard of exhaust bezel, major bent bumper support brackets. Definately NOT a 5mph bumper.

    Here are some photos:

I'm looking for suggestions as to repair / replace / whatever's appropriate for a mostly original 45k mi car which I'm slowly restoring to NCRS specs. The current mushed fiberglass panels & bumper are original. Is there value in repair or should I replace them? If insurance covers this (won't know details till Monday) I'll be happy to hunt high & low for NOS parts & the best of everything, but if they hassle me I might be looking at a lower $ solution. Car needs repainting, but I wasn't planning on that for another 4-5 years.

It just figures... I'm planning on having the car judged in a regional meet in March as part of my "before restoration" benchmark. I don't think I want to know how many points this just cost me. ;) Those judges out there reading this can squint when you get to that back corner in March OK?

    Thanks for any input, Juliet

      Juliet,

Your story reminds me of the old Seagram's Crown Royal ad. Broken bottle of Crown Royal on the ground, and the simple phrase "Ever seen a grown man cry?"
