    Question for Joe Lucia

    Joe,

There is a thread started a couple of days ago with regards to Emissions label on a members '70 LT-1. I have a question about my '71. It has a yellow label with GM #3983361. On page 71 of the '70-'72 JG, it states #3989361 for 1970 and early 1971. What about the later cars? Did they switch to the label I have?

    Thanks in advance

    Robert

    Re: Question for Joe Lucia

    Robert----

First of all, I don't think that there were 2 different labels (i.e. GM #3983361 and GM #3989361). I think that the reference in the JG is either a misprint or is incorrect. The part number for the label was GM #3983361. This label is yellow and is coded "CB".

The "CB" label was used as an "add-on" emissions label for originally California-delivered 1970 Corvettes (i.e. with EEC). It was used regardless of engine installation. However, I don't think that this label was used from the outset of 1970 PRODUCTION. I think that it was added sometime afterwards. At what point it was added, if I am correct about it not being used from the beginning, I do not know.

For 1971, all cars received the EEC system. In general, I don't think that the "CB" label was used for 1971, although it's possible that it was used very early on. The purpose of the label was to provide additional information for 1970 cars, most of which were not built with EEC. While the information contained on the label would have been, theoretically, just as useful for 1971 cars, I think that the label was not generally, if at all, used for 1971.

1972 and later definitely did not get the "add-on" "CB-coded" label.
