    Chrome Pitting

Is there a way to remove minor pitting from otherwise good chrome?

    Not really....

Once you can see pit, it's almost always sourced at the underlying metal (steel, pot metal, Etc) surface beneath the chrome finish. About all that can be done is to de-chrome the part, buff the underlying surface to get as smooth and regular of a surface as is possible then re-chrome....

      Paint

Pitting is caused from the steel substrate rusting below and poping up through the plating no cure just strip and redo. For plating to last #1 part has to be rust free #2 part is cyanide strike copper #3 part is plated acid copper buffed and redone until all imperfections are removed #4 nickel plated #5 Chrome this process is referred to as Triple Chrome this is top shelf will last for long time. Cheaper method #1 Nickel Strike on Steel #2 Chrome will last if kept waxed and not out in elements.
