Please define the terms listed in this post!

I had a question of mine answered on this site, but since I'm new, I need someone to help define the terms in my previous posting's answer. I checked the glossary of terms on this site, and the information wasn't there, or I couldn't fine it.

    What does the following mean?:

    1. "displace the broadcast code"

    2. "engine suffix code"

    3. "engine pad"

This may seem like a strange request, but I'm doing some research on a friend's car.

    Thanks in advance!

Not sure about the broadcast code.
The engine suffix code is a two letter(maybe three on later engines)that tell what engine you have. For example my engine pad says T0116LL...the LL is the suffix code that identifies the engine as a 427,390hp,auto. FYI, the T is for Tonawanda and 0116 stands for January(01) 16th(16).
All this info along with the serial number is stamped on the engine pad. This pad is on the front right hand side of the engine block where the head meets the block. it may be difficult to see if it is dirty and you have a A/C pump mounted over it.

A broadcast code is a means for the assembly line employees to quickly identify very similar looking parts from each other. Alternators, distributors, brake master cylinders, some carburetors, and of course engines themselves all had broadcast codes of some type on them.
The suffix code is also a broadcast code. So is the two letter ink stamp often seen on alternators, and a color code on distributors.
I have no idea what "displace the broadcast code" means. There must be some context to the rest of that message, but the phrase by itself is inscrutable.

To displace a broadcast code would be to lose it! Maybe.....

Or, falling off dis'place...As in the suffix labels falling off those valve cover ends. I see ya got back to Canajunland all right, Mikey.
