    Side Exhaust

Wow! Looks like there will be a lot more "original" side exhaust cars in the near future! Check out Ebay auction 4528738873.

The 'Buy It Now' price is $75k which averages $380 each. Whoever gets them stands to make a decent profit given what an original set goes for these days. I wonder if they are real vintage stuff or newly manufactured 'NOS'.

I was thinking the same thing. But with a stockpile like that, you'd have to parse them out over a very long time period to get top dollar. They look like the real deal to me. Ya think they'd notice if I walked out with a set of 2.5" SB pipes stuffed down my pants?

        Re: Side Exhaust

I noted that they did not say they had x number sb 2" (Important)left & right, X number of 2.5 sb pairs, and x number of bb pairs, and how many of what left after those numbers. Dale

A very good point Dale. For that kind of money, you think they could take a quick inventory and list exactly what was available. I will gladly perform the service for them in exchange for one set for baby!

              The seller of these pipes

is a national and and a well known Quebec chapter member of the NCRS and has had several articles published in the Restorer.

I'm sure he would respond very favourably to requests such as this.

30 & 40 year old pipes with no rust, corrosion, abbrasions, etc? Yeah, I am sure its NOS. More like NNS.

                    Re: Side Exhaust

I guess I spent too many years in the parts business buying distressed merchandise. I have bought too many inventories of A.P., Walker, Midas, NAPA (Walker)etc. to go for that being N.O.S.(New Old Stock). Dale

                      New? or OLD?, Or STOCK!

New Old Stock (NOS)! Brand New, Really old (How Old?), and Stock (just off the shelf, i.e. NAPA). Just what EXACTLY does NOS mean. A new Original (as came on the car), a new replacement part exactly like the original, or a replacement part which is functionally the equivalent of the original? Or some combination of the terms.

                        What NOS means today is

I can get a higher price on eBay.

The seller likely has no idea if it is New Old Stock, New Old Replacement Stock, New Original Stock, or what.

                        He knows it is New.

He knows it is Old, but that means more than from this month. Must be old, the box is faded.

He knows it is Stock, but Stock means the stuff you buy off shelves as in inventory, materials, or supplies, not Stock like in belongs on this particular car. So like someone said, NAPA, CarQuest, AutoZone, Pep Boys, etc parts are all "stock".

Very few actually think in terms that this part was made 40 years ago current with the then new vehicle.

                          It's in the mind ...

of the seller. I bought a "NOS" headlight switch for my 66 on eBay. It was simply an over-the-counter CHevrolet replacement item. When I called the seller, he said, I think it "IS" NOS. (But he couldn't define exactly what NOS means) "If you don't like, send it back". Shipping is cheap!
It looks like NOS is kind of like Porn- I can't define it, But I know it when I see it.

It all comes down to education ,people need to be self educated and the cost is time and money.Lots of money for new comers. I do spend time once and a while looking over E-Bay seeing people buying wrong parts thinking the seller knows what he is selling. When I know that part is wrong as listed , I contact the seller and high bidder.Mostly the seller is nice saying they didn't know and buyer doing the same.
This is a way we can help newbees and make friends.
NOS only means some thing to the person that knows what their looking at.

Unfortunately, Roy, many don't want to know. That would imply they didn't know before. It is like the large number of Corvettes for sale now and somewhere in the auciton is a reference such as "cars like this are selling for $xxx, xxx at Barrett-Jackson, so here is your chance to save thousands".

And they are falling for it.
