    71 LT-1 Engine Label

what is the correct engine code suffix label for valve cover on 71 LT1?
Can't find in tech judging manual. Any sources to purchase replacement? Thanks

    "CGZ", unless it's a ZR1 ("CGY").

David, I too am an owner of a '71 LT-1. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure they didn't come with any valve cover engine suffix. Like the previous post mentioned, the engine suffix code stamped onto the engine pad located on the right front should be CGZ, unless it's a ZR-1, then will be CGY.

I hope I answered your question.

        Robert,

Every engine was assembled with a sticker placed on the passenger's side valve cover. On this sticker were the same 3 letters that correspond to the suffix of you engine. So, for your 71 LT-1 a yellow sticker with black letters saying "CGZ" would have been affixed to that valve cover, usually the rear of it.

Examples on LT-1s are rare. More examples (not that there are many) exist for painted vlave cover motors. I suspect the stickers did not adhere well to the aluminum covers, and in any event on most cars they were gone within the first couple thousand miles if not sooner.

I've never seen the labels on a 70-72 LT-1. I have judged quite a few in the last 12 years.

            Bob,
There is a line item for it on the 70-72 judging sheets. From memory its at least a 5 point item so its worth paying attention to.

Bob -- ask Drew Papson about his label. It and the car are with a new owner, but he has Xeroxes of the original.

Patrick, As I was typing my original response, I wondered if the sticker was affixed to the aluminum cover but as you said, usually fell off because it wouldn't adhere to aluminum as well as the painted valve covers. Thanks for your input.

Sure after all these years you FINALLY tell me about an LT-1 label.

When you get a chance, could you e-mail me contact info on Drew?

                  Thanks,
