1969 BB Hood - early or late?

Any way to tell if this ebay item is an early 1969 BB hood? (See link below.) Looks like it's not to me.

Kent, Looks alot like whats on my 71 BB. Wasn't they they same for 69-71,72? From the photo's it's hard to tell. But I don't think $450.00 is too much if you don't have alot of work to do to it either. Just my 2 cents. Maybe old Dick Whittington will chime in on this.

From the pictures, there's no way to tell. I would need to see a GOOD picture of the lower side of the rear end (firewall end) of the hood to tell whether it's "early" or "late". By the way, the "late" design did not appear until about mid-October, 1969. It was really a hood intended for 1970 models but installed on 1969s as a result of the model year going so late.

Thanks for the information. My car was built circa August 7, 1969 and has an early hood that the owner crudely modified for an L-88 intake and carb. I guess if the ebay hood had a good skin, I considered using it on my hood's skeleton framework. Any thoughts for the next availability?

There are 2 differences. One difference involves the configuration of the right side lock plate. The mounting pattern for the 68-very late 1969 right side lock plate is different than that for the very late 1969 to 1972 hood. The second difference involves the attaching points for the cable retainers for the hood lock plate cross cable. The earlier hood has TWO mounting points (weld nuts on "embedded" nut plates). The later hood as only ONE mounting point.

Either style hood will work on any 68-72. However, the corresponding upper hood lock plates, lower lock bolts, and crossover cable have to be the correct ones for the hood used. The upper lock plates, crossover cable and lower lock bolts are specific to the hood.

Differences are several: the latches, blanket isulation configurations and color of hood release cable insulation to cite only three. Rick Bizzoco's book and some past posts have enlightened me. Others more knowledgeable may have information to add.

I don't think that I'd even attempt to seperate the hood components and "make one out of two". I don't think that you'd be happy with the process or with the result. Also, I don't think that I understand what you mean by "next availability".

Many thanks for your advice again and again. "Next availability" meant, in my terms, the next time a '68-early '69 hood appears for sale since the ebay item closed while I was homeward bound from work.
