    C2 TRI POWER SECONDARIES

Can it be determined if the secondaries are working with the car stationary?

    Re: C2 TRI POWER SECONDARIES

to operate secondaries open hood and give the throttle by means of the centre carb and you will see the secondaries opening around 3000 rpm , you will see the butterfly start to open, with the air cleaner off of course.

Full opening will not occur unless the engine is under load at WOT (out on the highway).

John The only way you will get the secondaries to open when sitting still is to grab the front and back throttle linkage and move them, because of the linkage the center will open also. Then it will really roar to life. When your driving and floor the car the secondaries will feel like a passing gear kicking in, at least it does on my 435 67. Dale

Should be smooth - C2 TRI POWER SECONDARIES

If you feel like passing gear kicked in, the carbs aren't adjusted right. The vacuum-controlled carbs should come in as smooth as silk. Same is true on a four barrel. If you feel a kick, it is because there is a momentary pause in forward acceleration, and then it accelerates again. Commonly known as "secondaries bog".

This was usually felt with mechanical four barrels which opened without regards to air flow requirements and became so common and associated with flooring it, anyone riding in a car that didn't do this assumed something was wrong. The "surge of power" was really the bog of the secondaries opening without the flow requirements.

Now that isn't to say you shouldn't feel a pull back in the seats. But you won't feel a slam back into the seat, more like compression, unless you are sitting forward and not really in the seat. Riding in a jet is how it should feel.

One 435 hp I drove felt like your lungs were being pressed, but there was no slam backwards. You were just mashed backwards, kind of like one of those spinning rides that mash you into your seat.
