    Location of date on Quadrajet?

Hi, can someone guide me where to look for the date on a quadrajet. I am looking at a 7028209 FG, any idea what the FG stands for? Thanks in advance, Terry

    Terry------

The "FG" is a broadcast code. It's the code that simply and quickly identified a part for the purposes, primarily, of vehicle assembly.

The date code for the carburetor should be on the left rear vertical surface (the same one that the carb number and "FG" are located on). It should be 4 characters following the broadcast code. The first 3 denote the consecutive day of the year and the last one denotes the last digit of the year of manufacture.

It's on the vertical surface, drivers side, rear. Four digit date, first three numbers are the day of the year (Julien Date)and the last number for the year.

Hmmmm, no date to be seen. Wonder what that means. Does the broadcast code in this case connect it to corvette? I guess what I am asking, is it a 68 390 hp carb with 4 spead? Or, is it from someone's boat? I recall that being a very specific carb for that year, wonder how many other applications it had or if it matters as long as it has the correct number on the side and it has not been reconfigured. Thanks for the fast responce, Terry

I think the carb I am looking at is missing its date. Hmmmmm, wonder what is up. Maybe it is faint and the guy just can't see it. Thanks, Terry

Some '69 Q-jets carried the date on the side on the throttle plate, on the drivers side near the rear bolt boss. Look there, I've got one from a Camaro done that way, the first three numbers are day of the year and the last the year.

The 7028209 Rochester carburetor is uniquely associated with the "FG" code. This IS a 1968 Corvette with L-36 and manual transmission carburetor. I can't find any other original application for this carburetor except the Corvette application. Of course, if it was a SERVICE carburetor, someone could have bought it and used it on a boat. But, it was intended for a 1968 Corvette with L-36 and manual transmission.

                Q Jet

70 Primary Jet 2= Decade Code (1960's) 8=1968 2= Qjet Fed Emissions Standard 0=Chevrolet 9= Manual Trans The letters FG can't remember if it comes to me I will get back to you every time I start thinking hard I smell wood burning. Date code on Decade 2 Carbs will be 4 Digits Example 0019 (001= Jan 1) (9= 1969) this is Julian Date Code 0-365 it is not always present sometimes they didn't put the 70 in I have a 69 427 carb like that. Your Carb should be for a 1968 427 Cu.In. 390 HP Manual Trans.

That is where they are at (date). I just need to make them out. I went out and looked at my carb and found the same FG after the parts number. Thanks, Terry

Thanks Harold, very interesting! Appreciate the feedback. I would say that it is a very rare carb. One year application and all. Thanks again, Terry
