The correct starter motor number for 1970 Corvettes with LS-5 and manual trans is 1108400. The starter number which you provided is an 8 digit number which was never used for starters of the period. I suspect that you read or typed the number incorrectly, but I don't see any way to get 1108400 out of what you have, so its probably a moot point.

Maybe the last digit...the 9 isn't correct. It's there, or at least appears to be a 9, although seperated farther away from the preceeding digits.

OK, although it's probably not of too much consequence, what you probably have is 1108435 9 G-23. In that case, you have starter GM #1108435 which was built on July 23, 1969. This particular starter was never used in a Corvette, but, at the moment, I can't tell you what its original application was. Now, this is NOT to say that such a starter would not be FUNCTIONAL for a 1970 Corvette with LS-5, just that it was not ORIGINALLY used for a 1970 LS-5.

Just to finish this thread off and in case it's of interest to you, your starter originally resided on a 1970 Pontiac with 400 or 455 cid engine. Given the starter's build date, it was very likely used on a very early build model year 1970 Pontiac.
