Parts question - breather canister

I have discovered that my small block 67 is missing the internal crankcase breather canister (can). Is this can required, and if so is it still available from GM parts? What would it's part number be? I really don't want to pay $35 for a part like this from the Corvette shops...

I don't believe it is available from GM any longer. I found mine in a junk yard but still paid $15 for it. You can also try asking some local machine shops if they have one laying around.

These breather canisters show up on Ebay quite frequently. I've seen the sell for anywhere between $5.00 and $75.00. If you type in 283 on the Ebay parts search, these items usually show up.

Although long since purged from the GM parts system, the last time I was thinking about buying one from the General, the retail price was $45.00. Needless to say, I went scrounging in the junk yards and got one for a buck.
