Paint, semi flat krylon 1613 vs gloss black which?

I have been using Semi flat krylon 1613 for my semi gloss black parts. And John Deere blitz black.

According to the judging manual it says the coil and crankcase vent tube is gloss black. What is everyone using for gloss black?

Jim, IIRC, my 72 manual also says that the gloss black isn't a very glossy finish. I think that the finish is the same gloss as the brake booster - glossy but not overly so. I used Krylon gloss and just accepted the fact that it was too glossy. You might be able to paint your coil, let it dry and then use a polishing compound to dull it slightly.

You can try mixing the semi and gloss while spraying. Call me crazy, but I've done this many times to get the low grade gloss. Seems to work.

A related question: I have used the Krylon 1713 several times myself, but have to admit that durability of it leaves something to be desired. How does the John Deer black compare in durability, and is it available in a rattle can? I like the application of the Krylon and the finish, but seems I invariably scratch it during install just by light contact.

Has anyone tried baking-on the Krylon in an oven to aid curing or hardness? I do that with other paints such as engine enamels and it does produce a harder finish.

John deere is good paint, yes available in the rattle can but its $9 a can and slow drying.

Try plasti-kote anti -rust enamel semi gloss, #361. As easy to apply as krylon, with a bit more gloss, more of a semi "gloss", whereas I think krylon is more semi "flat". I think it duplicates original GM semi gloss better than krylon.

From what I remember, Sherman Williams owns Krylon, Krylon owns Dupli-Color. Krylon makes the semi-flat and Dupli-color makes the semi gloss.

The mixtures are real close, since there all in the same family semi-flat and semi-gloss is essentially the same but I get the Dupli-color when I need semi-gloss.
