Holley accelerator pump spits gas on its own...

I noticed this weekend on my 67 327/300 HP car that on the Holley carb a small amount of gas spits out of the accelerator pump jets once every few seconds even when the throttle is not moving and the car is just idling. What typically causes this? I actually noticed it today with the car hot right after I turned off the car. With it just sitting there, it would spit a bit of gas out of the accelerator jets once in awhile.

I had rebuilt the carb myself (done several) about a year ago. Car runs great, but it might be idling a bit uneven when the gas is spitting out. Doesn't seem to do it all the time.

Suggestions?

tim the discharge weight for accelerator pump may not be seating to shut fuel off

Tim,

There should be about 0.010 between the arm and the plunger to keep this from happening. You can adjust the spring and plunger assembly at the arm. Should cure the problem.

Regarding the clearance between the arm and the plunger: When I rebuilt my carb with a Holley kit, the instructions for adjustment of the accelerator pump said to leave a .015" gap with the throttle wide open. I thought this seemed strange at the time, since with it adjusted that way there is no gap at all at idle. So, should I adjust it such that there is a small gap as you say while throttle is closed or open??
