    paint and body work ?

I am in the process of restoring my 1960 vette. I am not trying to make it a points car. I just want a good looking car that I can drive and enjoy with my wife,so I'm not really interested in originality or #'s etc.

Being new to this type of undertaking, I'm just about ready to get a paint job and some body work done. What types of questions should I ask body shops? Should I be aware of any type of shennanagins? What is the difference between enamel and laquer?

    thanks in advance

That is a huge can of worms. If you are not concerned about points, you will probably go with enamel or base/clear coat. They are more durable than modern laqure. Fiberglass is a very difficult surface to paint. Having somebody that has experience at painting corvettes is a big help. Go to a restoration place that has been in business for a number of years. Ask them if they will guarantee their work or for how long. Use one paint system (one brand of paint)don't mix and match systems. Go out of state if you have to. Some places will pick your car up and deliver it back to you ($). If you plan on keeping the car and want quality work, go the extra distance if needed. Ask for references and pictures of cars that they have done. If you can't sit down with them and talk about your goals or plans for you car, get away from them. There are good and bad people in the business just like everything else. There is a difference in just doing the job and caring about what you are doing. They are out there, you just have to find them. But, get ready to pay. You should post what state you are in and people may be able to advise on your location. They may even tell you who to avoid. Also...a good painter will more than likely need to see your car. They will have to look at it and decide how sound the structure is and if any repairs are needed. A car as old as yours can have a lot of hidden skeltons and things can get costly just bringing it back to solid before they will even put paint on it, especially if you want it to last. Good luck, Terry
