Talk to 'wheel guys' in your neck of the woods and/or check the yellow pages. The service you're looking for is called wheel truing. Folks who do this in Denver get roughly $90/wheel for steel wheels. It's a dull, boring, mindless task like Mike describes....

The wheel is mounted on a dummy stub axle and turned with two dial calipers recording vertical + horizontal run-out. The high spots are marked, the wheel is dismounted, laid on a flat/padded surface. The tech selects a suitable hammer from a rather wide selection and stragetically WACKS the wheel.

The process repeats until the wheel is 'true' again. Not much technology here, but knowing WHERE to hit and how HARD is the learned artform!

I have a hot wrench and a hammer/dollie collection. I guess I'll try it on my own first. The dents aren't too bad and I have a very bad case of cheapskatightass that prevents me from reaching into my wallet to pay others for things I can do myself.

If it doesn't work out, maybe I'll see a doctor about my condition.
