'66: How to remove coupe rear window run; Help!

Can someone tell me the trick to removing the rear window run on a '66 coupe? I've removed the large upper and lower phillips screws on the latch side of the door, but the rear run won't come out and it feels like it's still attached to the vertical part of the upper rear window run. The bottom part of the lower run swings free, but it's definitely caught at the top. I don't see anythin in the '66 chassis service manaul that tells me what I'm not doring right. Any tips?

    Thanks,

    Gary

there are mushroom shaped fastners cliped into the run at about 6" intervals from about the door latch area up to the vent window area./insert a ice pick bent at a 90 degree angle on its end(Snap on and craftsman has em or you can make one by heating the tip of an old ice pick then bending it 90 deg --about 3/8 to 1/2" on the end. don't try bending without heat -it'll snap off . insert the ice pick and pry the run out of its channel. once ya see how its secured in the door, it'll be obvious. good luck, mike

      Gary,

You did say rear window run. I'm assuming it's the lower rear window run. You will have to remove the window and it will come out.

Mikey has been drinking again. That Maryland Missle Water is clear but very strong.

Mike: Got it out; two follow up questions

        Mike,

Thanks for your hint. I got it out. Turns out there is a screw at the very bottom in addition to two, I think, of those mushroom fasteners. I sure wish the service manual was more clear on that point.

I have two more questions that I'm sure you'll have answers to. First, what do you suggest for lubricant/grease to use on all of the sliding parts of the door latch mechanism, door lock, and all the pivot points and rubbbing points were the rods connect from the key, push button, and inside door pull lever? I was thinking of lithium grease, but that can be pretty thick and that sticky or gummy feel is not the feel I want when one tries to lock or unlock the door with the key, for example. Is there something more slippery than lithium or thinner that won't drip off?

Secondly, my passenger's main window is attached to the sash with what looks like clear silicone. What material was used originally to secure the main window glass into the sash along the bottom edge of the window?

        Thanks,

        Gary

Re: Mike: Got it out; two follow up questions

i use a lithium spray out of rattle can. silicone to seat glass in the channel or sash a no-no. original bedding material was a flat black rubberoid strip. believe its 060" thick. should be available from local glass shop. don't settle for a tan cork-like bedding strip. i bought a 50 foot roll years ago from Lawson products. works great and looks just like original bedding strip.be sure to coat the surfaces of the strip with household detergent before pounding the sash/channel onto the window glass. also important to locate the channel/sash correctly on the window glass if ya want the window to go up and down correctly. good luck, mike

            Thanks Mike

            Mike,

Thanks for the info. I already figured out that locating the window at the correct fore-aft position on the sash was important. I'll measure and just put it back where it is, since it goes up & down fine now. First I need to decide if I need to replace the sash, which is looking more than a little tired.

            Thanks again,

            Gary
