    T-10 4 speed questions

I have a T-10 4 speed that I got in a package deal. I have been holding onto it for a while, but I will probably never need it. Dates are as follows: Case is cast iron and has date D-30-62 (very hard to read the 62). Tailhousing is aluminum and has date 6-20-63. Side cover is aluminum and has date 4-18-62. The guy I got it from says it came from a Corvette. Gears look OK when I remove the side cover. It has no shifter or linkage. It is very clean. The output splines do not look like a Powerglide/Muncie/TH350. I have a few questions I am hoping you can help me with.
    1) Is this a Corvette T-10? What other information do I need to be able to tell?
    2) I assume is from an early 64 by the dates. Is this a reasonable assumption?
    3) The date on the side cover is a year apart from the rest, is this unusual or probably changed and not original?
    4) What might an approximate value be? I have a booth in a swap meet this weekend and am considering taking this along.

Thank you again for any information you can help with.

I can tell you that it can't from a 64. In 64 GM used the Muncie transmission in all corvettes. As far as value, I would check out the completed listings on Ebay. You'll be able to find like units and see what they sold for. Just my 2 cents

Mark, between the main body and the tail section on the cover side there should be numbers and letters stamped into the trans. Can you post these, they will help with the analysis. Also, are there any raised letters or numbers on the cases such as " T 10 D", post them also.

      Thanks

      Harry

Already in 1961 Chevrolet went to aluminum cases for Corvette T-10's. What you have is likely Pontiac, Olds, etc--heavy case didn't make that much difference because it was a heavy car.

I will get those numbers tonight and post them. Sounds like this must be a passenger transmission. Thanks for the help.

Is it likely this was built with such a wide date range, or is it more likely the case has been changed?

I agree with the others, it is from a passenger car as the switch to aluminum was in '61. Also Corvette trannys of the day have the VIN derivative stamped on the one of the flanges and there should be a bowtie on the tail piece. Regardless, you should get $200 plus for it if like you say the internals are clean and the gear engagement teeth are sharp. I recently paid $100 for just a new second gear and I believe the internals will swap out with an aluminum case version.

Cast iron case T-10 was used in Pontiac and Buick thru '64, could be one of those...

                The numbers are as follows:
                1) Side cover: Just date 4-18-62
                2) Tailhousing: Date 6-20-63 and also raised casting T10-7B and below that WG DIV
                3) Case: Date D-30-62 and also stamped (like an engine SN pad) next to the side cover WG2431 and raised casting T10-IB (or 1B, it has no top or bottom to the 1st character, just a vertical line) and below that W.G.DIV

Maybe that will help ID it.

                  Re: T-10 4 speed questions

Mark, I've been looking through my material, this is what I see from Chevrolet by the Numbers.

                  1) Tail section T10-7B was used on 1960 and 1961 passanger cars and corvettes. The date of 6-20-63 is not consistent as T10-7D was used in 1962 and 1963. Please recheck the B to see if it's a D.

                  2) I believe the WG2431 is on the Retainer. That should be W = Warner, G = July, 24 = the 24th, 3 = 1963, 1 = first shift.

                  3) Case T10-1B only went to January of 1961 on Passanger Cars and Corvettes.

I'm not sure what you have?

                    Thank you for your response.
1)The case kind of makes sense I guess. It was cast in April and built in July 63.
2)The tailhousing definately says T10-7B. And the date is very clear as 6-20-63.
Is it possible that this was a service or OTC transmission for a 61?
