F-41 Rear Spring

My 68 has a replacement rear spring, as identified by bands.When restoring, can I just remove these bands or are there also other identifying differencse from the original.Would it be better to locate an original to restore?It is a seven leaf spring and the tank sticker does say F-41.

You can remove the bands. All "reproduction" or replacement springs on the market today differ in some ways from the originals for reasons other than the bands. Just how much the one you have differs, I don't know.

If you really want 100% correct cosmetics, you'll have to find an NOS spring (close to impossible) or you'll have to buy a good used spring and restore it. If you go either of these routes, you should read the article that Joe and I wrote on 63-82 heavy duty (HD) springs to make sure you're getting the correct spring for your year, since GM had 4 detectably different designs of HD Corvette rear springs from 63 thru 82; not all of them even had 7 leaves.
