    C1 Intake Manifold 2 X 4

I have a '58 245 hp. TI & JG says no washers for manifold bolt down. A vendor is selling this part. Who's wrong, vendor or JG? Can someone explain?

    Thanks,

    David

      Thanks Mike,

That's what I thought. Just courious why this part is being sold. It's $12.00 for all pieces.

I believe the washers are sold to protect the soft aluminum intake. The hex head bolts dig into the manifold. The washers give a little more bearing surface to minimize damage. They would effect torque specifications though.

            Daivd,
I can tell you that judges look to see if you put washers on and if so they deduct albeit not many points. Was it done that way on original C1's? Don't know so you have to rely on the JG. I do know that if my car wasn't being judged I would have them on there because they do damage the aluminum intake. Judged- no washers. Not judged- washers.
            My 2 cents.

The washers keep the nuts from gouging the carb, spread the clamping load over a larger area, and are a good idea; however, the factory never used them. Just one of many "improvements" sold by the vendors
