    C1: Engine for 62

    Hi

I am trying to locate and purchase a working engine for a 62 Corvette. My car's VIN is 20867S108674 and I am guessing that the car was built around March 1962.

    Thanks in advance

    Willie

    Willie,

There are many sources for your engine such as professional rebuilders, swap meets, ebay, Crane's Corvettes, this membership, etc.

I checked on the NCRS Wisconsin site birthday calculator at http://www.ncrswi.bizland.com/wi_ncrs/bdaycalc.htm They list the build date of your car as March 22, 1962.

To be close to correct, look for a 327 cu in block with casting code 3782870 and a date code of either A, B or C in 1962 (something like B232 for February 23, 1962). Don't get any closer than a week ahead of your build date though. If you get really lucky you can find one with a suffix code on the front engine pad of RC, RD, RE, RF, SC or SD. Any 327 will work but you want to find one without front motor mounts which is correct for the Corvette. Also make sure that the first letter on the engine pad starts with an "F" for Flint.

I happen to have a 870 block/engine from a '62 Corvette with date of A312 but unfortunately it is in my '61 at the present moment. For reference, the serial number is 2106810. Someday I hope to replace it with the correct block but that won't help you right now.

    Happy Hunting!
    Mike

      Mike, could you clarify this?

"Any 327 will work but you want to find one without front motor mounts which is correct for the Corvette."

Motor mounts are a bolt-on item, and the blocks are all the same.
