Just bought a 1977 driver and it has a badly cracked dash. A couple of questions to all you experts. 1. How in the heck do you get the pad out of the windshield pilars? I tried everything, but the right thing. 2. Has anyone used the "glue" on skin, if so do they look cheesy? What about the speaker holes, how do you get those to line up properly? It sounds tempting $100 versus $350 but if looks cheap I don't even want it on a driver.

Re: 1977 Upper Dash Pad
When new and 'supple' the upper dash pad would flex to a small degree without breaking allowing it to clear the windshield uprights. With age, they get brittle and it takes a skilled hand to juggle/jostle and get an aged original in and out without cracking it!
Some cracks can be repaired quite well by professional in your neck of the woods who specialize in doing 'invisible' vinyl repair for restaurants, Etc. Also, if memory serves, there was a pretty nice 'how to' article in Restorer magazine from a member who'd managed to save and restore his original dash pad in the area of the speaker holes where they're prone to drying out and cracking!- Top
