Re: rear spring linners
Mike----
GM #3794113 is the correct GM part number for the spring liners. If yours have a yellow part number stamped on them, they are of relatively recent vintage(like the last 15 years, or so). The part number was always the same, but the part did change a little over the years. The originals were a little thicker than the later issue, but this is not discernable when the liners are installed in the spring. In any event, there are NO better liners available than those available from GM under the part number which you mentioned.
Incidentally, these liners are a graphite filled polyethylene material. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: rear spring linners
Joe -- When I replaced my liners at 115K miles back in the late seventies, the well worn originals appeared to be made out of leather of a things. I was sure that the polyethylene replacements were not like the originals used in '63. Any comments? Also, I believe that there is no liner between the number one and two leaves on the standard suspension nine-leaf spring.

Re: rear spring linners
Duke------
1963 Corvettes used a different rear spring than 1964-74 models. The 1963 spring, GM #3794095, was a single stage spring. In this spring design, ALL leaves are arched. I was unaware that there was no liner between the first and second leaves of this spring but, quite frankly, I don't know very much about it. Also, as far as the use of leather or similar material for the liners go, I am unaware of that, too. I can tell you that the 1963 edition of the Chevrolet Parts and Accessories Manual specifies the use of the GM #3794113 liner for 1963 Corvettes. This liner is the one still available today under the same part number. Although the same part number may change to some degree over the years, it is difficult to imagine that GM would change the material without changing the part number. On the other hand, 3794113 is a SERVICE part number; the PRODUCTION part, at least for 1963, might have been different.
From 1964 to 1974 a different standard suspension, 9 leaf spring was used. This spring was part number GM #3850839. It was a 2 stage spring. In this 2 stage design, the upper 3 leaves are "flat" and the lower 6 leaves are arched. There is no liner between the 6th and 7th leaves(between the arched and flat leaves). However, all other leaves had a liner in between.
The original spring on my original owner 1969 was the 2 stage 3850839. When I rebuilt it for the first time, I found that the liners were black, graphite-filled polyethylene, virtually identical to the replacement GM #3794113 liners. More recently, I've found that the replacement 3794113 liners appear to be slightly thinner than the originals, but otherwise the same in configuration. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
