    C2- Who's got good blue?

    Members,

I Just finished my center console with paint from Paragon. It's way too greenish aqua. I set next to it an original dashpad and speaker grill with factory blue that is a bit darker and no greenish tint. Which paint supplier has the correct color? Thanks!

    Justin,

Just a few thoughts. In 67 there were 2 interior blues, bright and teal. The teal was the darker-calmer of the two. My dash was previously painted with I don't know what and I needed to do the speaker grill over. I used the dye from ZIP and it matched the teal someone else had used perfectly. How it would have matched original teal I do not know. Remember too there is a fade factor to be considered when comparing new color to old perhaps faded color.

        Re: C2- #450 Bright blue/white-67

        Wayne,

I shot another photo hoping it would be better than the first. I need the bright blue, but the stuff I used from Paragon is straight aqua. To me it's not even close. The original blue is darker and has a slight metallic 'flicker' when you look closely enough to the dashpads.

            Justin,

You might want to shoot some test cards to send out as examples of what you don't what to some other suppliers. Bright blue and teal blue are different but neither looks aqua to me. There was a turquoise color in 59-60. I'd call Paragon first and see if they can't figure out what got mixed up if it is that far off. Let us know how this turns out.

                Re: C2- #450 Bright blue/white-67 QUESTION

Every C2 "original" interior color I've seen other then Black all the pieces were a shade off in color , RED being the most obvious , and now restored RED interiors pieces are all perfect in color (Matching)
So I'm asking if some one were to have a vett judged having the original RED interior looking "off" not matching, what would happen to that poor guy??????

                    Re: C2- #450 Bright blue/white-67 QUESTION

Senior judges recognize there were MINOR hue deviations from lot to lot on factory paint and allow for it just as they recognize dye lots changed on items like seat belts. Speaking directly to your question (what would happen to the poor guy), it depends on who's judging the car and exactly what the hue of this/that is.... This is an area of restoration artform and, lacking EXACT SPECIFICS, it's impossible to give a hard line answer.

BUT, most judges are pretty 'sane' in my book and they tend to give the owner/car the benefit of the doubt!

Corvette America has great color and easy to work with. Re sprayed my bright blue and it looked great and lots of blue.

Justin - According to your profile, your '67 is very much like mine. From the posted picture, it looks like the radio speaker bezel is closer to the correct color blue. It should be a MEDIUM BLUE, not the silvery blue. Your white/blue interior should have a medium blue finish on dash pads and console. At one time, ACC was the only vendor with the correct color carpet. Latest discussions at the Winter Regional Meet indicate their patterning (carpet fit) is not as it used to be. Everyone else had bright blue, which is incorrect for our Corvette interiors. BTW - I removed the factory carpet, etc. and replaced with repro. Still have the original carpet in sad shape but the color is medium blue.
                            Good luck with your restoration,

I found the interior paint codes in the Restorer archives. The PPG codes match some old bright blue paint that I used to paint my console.

I have carpet samples from Al Knoch, ACC and Quality Auto Carpet in Chicago. None of the samples is very close in color to the original color. Any advice?
