Barrett Jackson 58 FI sold for 83k

Did anyone see the silver blue body-off 58 F/I sell on B-J this evening? It sold for 83k. I was surprised it didn't go for more. Was there something wrong with the car?? There was some comment about the metal in the paint, but I couldn't tell.

Tony, the paint had WAY too much metallic! It was over-restored to the max. Sure, it's a valauble Vette, but I thought $83K was too much myself.
Not as ridiculous as the '58 Impala ragtop for $130K or ,God save us, the '61 Chrysler 300G conv. with a 3 SPEED for $190K!!!
M.M.T.B. was the order of the day.

Don. Great point. I guess that's a lesson about OVER RESTORATION. Makes me want to hug my original and gently used '61!

        Let's keep watching.

                I have a commment here,

Shortley after the 58 sold,a 57 vette almost the same color, also an injected car, sold for higher numbers, I thought I seen a judging sheet in the window, Was it a judging sheet? is that why it brought higher dollar,s

You know I am NO corvette exspert,(I do own one though) and I am often asked what to look for in a car,I always suggest if its a high dollar car that they chose a car that has been recently flight judged, because I feel who knows the cars better then the NCRS judges?

I have to tell you I LOVE to watch this auction,I dont follow any sports,So I never under stood how any one could watch TV and then get the anger, emotion, happyness to actually start screaming at the TV, Well after watching the auction last night I now understand how folks could get so wrapped up in a show that they would yell at the TV. I could only imagine the amount of energy that is in that building when these cars are going across the block,

Larry, I know for a fact that the '58 FI car had never been judged. The guy that sold it is also from Kansas City where I'm from. He finished the resto the day before leaving for Scottsdale. I told him to get it NCRS judged before the auction but he didn't seem interested. I just think that if you sell a car with good NCRS judging results, it is money in the bank. A nice car with no judging sheet just makes a potential buyer wonder if there are any hidden problems underneath all that spit and polish.

Last year a very similar '58 sold in the $70's, no FI, same color scheme. I believe the seller just restored it out of KC, probably the same guy. I bid on the car myself, but had found that the engine numbers had been ground off... no numbers on the pad at all. I stopped waaay sooner than selling price.
So, I would assume this year the seller (even if it was a different KC restorer) knew the car in this color combo would sell for too much, and the NCRS judging was unnecessary. It might even have pointed things out (like last year's missing numbers) that he didnt want brought out.

So how about the white with silver coves 59 Vette with dual quad 245HP that went for $120,000. I didn't think the white with silver coves was even offered in 59. It also di not have correct seat belt buckles. I could not tell if the webbing was correct, but the buckles were the ones that CC sells.
