My car was built Jan 31/69 and I was wondering if it would be "correct" to have a 68 pump(can't see the date stamped on the pad)and diverter valve(28296) installed. If this set-up is just plain wrong, what kind of a points hit would I be looking at?

At this time I do not know when the "early" date ends, but all 68's and "early" 69's have the pressure relief valve in the case. Per NCRS guidelines you have six months window on the date codes. I think that you should get your mirror and flashlight out and check your date codes. The NCRS TIM & JG describes how to decipher the codes.Dick Whittington- Top

Greg,
I highly recommend Bill Hodel for your smog needs. He is extremely professional, and his parts are perfect. He's quite knowledgeable about the date codes, etc. too. BillHodel@aol.com. Tell him I sent you. I just bought the system for my '69 from him.- Top

Re: 68/69 427 A.I.R. systems
I missed the question about the diverter valve. Unless your 69 is real early I think that you might have problems with the 28296 valve being that the application is 68 427 engine. An then if it is very early you will have problems convincing a judge that it is correct for your car.Dick Whittington- Top

Re: 68/69 427 A.I.R. systems
That's what I was afraid of Dick. It's a unit that a guy I know of has but I haven't actually seen it yet. I see that it is also used on a 69 L88 but I think it would be easier convincing a judge that it's correct for my car rather that convincing him that my L36 in an L88!
Thanks guys for refering me to Bill. I have spoken with him in the past and if this "deal" falls through then I'll be dealing with him. He already quoted me a price for a complete kit less manifolds. I thought he was quite expensive untill he told me that the kit was show condition and that I just had to bolt it on...not a bad deal all things considered!- Top

Greg, I have seen quite a bit of Bill's work. It is very good and as good or better than what the General installed originally. If you are going for judging I probably would go this route. Convincing me that what you have described is correct fer ya car is gonna be pretty toughDick Whittington- Top
