C1 fresh air intake hose clamps

The two clamps that I removed from my '59 were both installed differently. The one on the left has the extra part of the strap going to the inside of the loop and the other has it going to the outside. How is it supposed to be? Thanks again. Pat G.

Mine are both on the inside. Did notice that your straps are not painted black which might suggest they are aftermarket straps or, were the correct straps around your build date or, they ran down the street and picked them up when the bin was empty which would also make them correct... dunno??

Richard, I just got them from C Central. Advertised as "correct" they ain't cheap. That is why I want to bend them the right way the first time. I checked my 1958-60 TIM&JG and it says "cadium plated band". Whew! You had me worried.

Not to panic, Pat. I have a little more research to do on these. I've seen the cad plate bands everywhere and understand the guides say this is correct.
I have reason to believe mine are original unmolested regardless of the guide books and here's why.
Save the air cleaner (a two piece unit), a rebuilt generator and a newer conv. top the car has every appearance of being untouched.

The bands have black on the outer surface of the bands, none on the inner surface, black on the screw posts but no black on the outter band between the posts. Also the screw heads are black but not the screw shaft. There is no overspray anywhere including the band sides and is too good a job to have been hand painted except by 'Michelangelo'. A rather interesting combination... something more likely to have been done by machine.

When I look at mine I can't imagine anyone going to the trouble to paint these with this detail. They match the petina of the 2 centered straps exactly and none, save the front band, appear to have been tampered with since new.

Think I might pull one of these off and have a real good look see.

                    Thanks for the heads up.
