Plating is VERY expensive no matter where you take it. Many platers won't even do zinc diecast (i.e. pot metal) since they have so many problems with it. Also, most platers have a minimum charge. That means that if you only have a few pieces or if you have a bunch of them, you end up having to pay the minimum charge. Often, the minimum charge is going to be $200, or more.

One that you might look into that does a LOT of chrome work is "Bumper Boyz". They are located in southern California and you can probably do a search to find them.

joe is right on. potmetal plating super expensive, especailly if there are pits that will have to be groud out and then silver soldered before plating the potmetal. try paul's chrome plating in evans city, pa, just above pittsburg. 800 245 8679. send them your pieces, they'll evaluate and set fee and send you a contract before they start(or you can have them send the parts back untouched if the contract doesn't suit you). they are excellent on potmetal and average in prices. owners name is fred. avoid the Pauls plating in carmichael, pa at all costs-they're work isn't even fit for a ford. mike

Sherms in Sacramento Ca. is the best any where, I've had 5 Corvettes done there and would go no where els .
My 55 was done 24 years ago and the chrome still looks like it was done yesterday. My horn ring was pitted and when it came back I thought it was a NOS part. Your pot mettle comes back with the sharp edges it had and no waves.
Their not cheap , but you get what you pay. I've seen to many people go by price and after they need to look for a new part.

Is this link to the place you recommend?

                Mike,

I've seen your recommendation before and I've been meaning to follow-up to make sure this was the place.

you got it, tc. if you're dissatisfied with their plating, they'll redo it at no charge till it meets your desires. have probably sent them over 4000 pieces in the last 30 years and have had to return just two pieces(57 tail lights ) which they redid till i was satisfied. how ya coming on the 63? the augusta peckerhead and i can't wait to judge it. regards, mike

Another good plater on the West Coast is Lemon Grove Plating in Lemon Grove, CA. I have had them do pot metal items for me several times. The have never buffed of the sharp detail of edges as some platers do. Have you nitroglycerin pills out when you get the price though. Top quality, top prices.
