I have a buddy who is finishing up his 75 coupe. He put a new bumper on the front of it and his hood won't line up properly. If he has it lined up where it is level in front-down by the headlights, the hood dips down lower than the fenders but is level at the windshield area. If he gets the hood even with the fenders, the front is up about 1/4 of on inch. He said that there are no shims under the hood hinges and the front end is a no hit front end. Is there something he may have losened that would drop the front end? All he said was that he only loosened up brackets that delt with the bumper. He is open for suggestions.

Bumper or bumper cover? If he just changed the cover, there should be no relationship to the hood. If he did the bumper assembly, he may have loosened the bolts at the radiator shroud or frame attachments. There is some possibility that this could change the nose position, but not likely. Hood fit is a common problem with these cars and the factory used the hard rubber blocks for the fix. -

'73 and up hoods tend to 'droop' in mid span in the manner you describe, meaning that if the extreme front and rear of the hood is level with the surrounding front clip, the center section (more or less in line with the fender peaks) tends to be too low. GM recognized this in the '75-76 (I think) time frame and added small rubber support blocks to the front clip 'drip rail'.
Dr. Rebuild has these as his P/N 8024115. Did the trick for me.Comment

My 79 has those hard rubber blocks on each side about in the middle from front to rear. I am glad you guys posted, I was thinking they were there to keep the hood from vibrating or something. I remember seeing them in Dr. Rebuild's catalog. Seems as if they were only a few bucks each. Much better than a new hood for your friends car. Give them a try. I have seen 2 on one side of a 77 also. Must have been a poor fit problem.
