Re: 58 front fender brace, Use Them!!

This is why I like this venue. I had my 58 judged at a regional and the exterior judging team told me I had extensive body repairs done to the front end becasue I had those stabilizers under the fenders. Sounds like there are a lto of guys who have never looked under the front fenders of a 1958 Corvette.

Having said that. I know a guy who had the Z stabilizers made out of metal. He installed them on his 59. He took measurements them off my 58 and then had someone bend the metal to the correct configuration. I think he riveted them in place. He has had no problems and you would never know unless you looked under the fenders, and from the sounds of it, not too many people do that.

Wayne is correct - the HD brake ducting

hung from this brace. I know a number of bodymen here in the Phoenix
area that temporarily install them on all 58-62 during block sanding to provide additional stability.

Re: 58 front fender brace, Gene

Besides a few judges knowing how to judge a 55 Corvette , it's the same for 58 Corvette being the first body change.
Like the 55 the 58 owners problem is ,if they have a EARLY- MID- or LATE Vette. knowing the difference for the judges is a challenge.
I like hearing them while they judge, but if it's not my vette and I'm not judging that vette and say some thing , you can imagine the looks I get.
Some of those old guys cant bend down easily. HE! HE!

Re: Wayne is correct - the HD brake ducting

The "z" braces are present on my unrestored 58' RPO684 and each elephant tusk has a bracket connecting it to the "z" brace. Is this a standard brace for all 58's or just the RPO 684"s?

I think that it was intended for the brake option, but I think others also were equipped. Not all of them had them especially late. My ~6300# does not and never had them.
