62' Convertible brackets

I'm replacing the reproduction convertible top frame and brackets on my 62' with original items. What I'm wondering is what color should the brackets be painted? Were they in the car before it was painted or installed after the car was painted? If they were in the car; what amount and finish should the body color paint be on the brackets?

The Soft top support plates & soft top brackets were painted on the car (if removed, the panel will be unpainted bare fiberglass behind the seats) The spray got slightly litter as it reached the seat bracket & seat belt outer mount brackets. My guess is the seat separator was painted at the same time, same color.
