a arm bushing replacement fred anyone my question is is is possible to replace a arm bushings without compressing the spring and disconnecting the ball joints thus disassembling the front stearing system currently the engine is out of the car so getting to the bushings are very easy i'm wondering if i put a floor jack under the lower a arms thus taking some pressure off the swivel points is good enough anyone have experience doing it this way suggestions thanks in advance fred

Re: A-Arm Bushing Replacement
re a arm bushing replacement jim jordan hello fred replacing the bushings as you have described is extremely dangerous the bushings must be forced out with either an air chisel or the correct bushing replacement tool causing the lower a arm to slip off of the floor jack although it may be possible to replace the bushings as you decribed it is certainly not worth the risk either purchase or rent a spring comppressor tool and the bushing removal tool it will make the job easier and help eliminate the danger of the spring flying out for what its worth i have seen springs accidentally slip fly out and go through drywall for your own sake be careful and use the correct tools good luck jim- Top

Re: A-Arm Bushing Replacement
re a arm bushing replacement tom freeman fred the bushings are a press fit item so you must get the a arms to a press do not know of a press that can be brought to the a arms i would be concerned about trying to balance the a arm with compress coil spring on top of a jack while trying to work on the a arm tom- Top
