Re: Would'a gone higher, but it's Green on Green L

    Wayne,
The POP is a very small part of the package. As a matter of fact I would say it is the least desired of all the items included.

        Dave-----

I didn't realize that the other paperwork was that rare. Perhaps, this is what influenced the high price rather than the POP. I think that the POP, itself, would only have significant value as I described previously.

I note that Jim Clemens was one of the bidders. If you arent't already aware of it, he is an automotive books and publications dealer. He bid $511 and I'm sure that, even at that price, he figured that he could re-sell it at a reasonable profit. He might even already have a customer on a waiting list. His interest would also indicate that it was the other documents and not the POP which was of primary interest. I'm sure that he doesn't own the car or have intentions of building up a "replica".

I've been known, myself, to pay too much for some pieces of "automotive-related literature". However, I only do that for pieces that are of great informational and research value. I'd never do it for something like these glovebox items. I think that most of these pieces are available in reproduction and, for the sort of purpose these will be used for, that's just fine in my book. 99.99% of the folks that see them won't know the difference, an even higher percentage won't care about the difference, the same information will be there, and, the entire contents package are only worth 5 raw judging points, anyway.

        But, to each his own!

It's easy in some states; much more difficult in others. However, once it's registered in any state, it can usually be taken to another and re-registered without any difficulty.

                Joe et al,
Sometimes the "cost per point" is not a consideration and in all cases paper items fit into that category. Given the point allocation and the lack of knowledge by many interior judges in detecting reproduction/reissue items it is definately a bad value if one looks strickly at the monetary side of things. We have all seen many situations where the goal far outweighs the cost and once someone embarks on a "mission" they just don't stop. We all have been guilty of that to varying degrees.
Glovebox pieces generally are acquired after a car is at or near completion and it serves as a final piece of the puzzle. The active bidders on that Ebay item were trying to seperate their car from others and in so acquiring those rare pieces may have done just that for their 65 396 car.
When I have my cars judged it is important to me that I have everything possible in order and that includes glovebox items. When a judge glances over nice original pieces or accepts reproduction items as original its a bit un nerving but its common. I guess we need to educate the interior judges to better recognize the real stuff and maybe look at the point allocation of the glovebox package. If they were worth more points then the importance of real items would become more of a priority.
                Interesting discussion.
