    whats this strange keyhole for?

i recently bought a '75 vette and knowing very little about this year / model, found a keyhole on the left front fender next to the wheel. Anyone know what this does? Some of the wiring inside has to be redone and im not sure if any of it is connected to this keyhole at all.

Also, does anyone know where i can obtain a copy of the original car owners manual and tech info on the engine? ('75)

Hopefully some of u can help me out! thanks for the time :)

The keyhole is probably the hole for the burglar alarm key, and the wiring is for the alarm system. I'm not sure if original manuals are still available from the Corvette vendors, but you could try. Originals can be found occasionally on EBAY or any of a number of Corvette literature dealers. Hope this helps. Chuck

      Heres some other questions

Yes, i thought this was what it was. Thanks for the fast response.

Does anyone happen to know which way the key should turn to set the alarm on "armed"? Left or right turn? I just want to make sure if its not hooked up, that i have it in "off" position. (getting hold of a 1975 owners manual would help greatly on these kinda things)

Are there any websites out there can have specific corvette year info on them regarding the a certain model or do i just have to hope someone sells a 1975 corvette manual reprint? Im so new to vettes in general, that i couldnt even find the windshield wiper switch in the pouring down rain! (later i found it in the middle part of the dash after feeling around the steering wheel forever)

I hope i did a good buy with this car. Im having it mechanicaly checked over tommorow by a shop just incase theres something wrong and i can bring it back. But up till now, the engine seems to be running just fine, sounds good. The body is in terrific shape, the tops dont leak, the interior is nice. Still may need some work here and there in the rewiring department. Also the reverse lights and right front blinker light are out.

If anyone can help me out with info regarding the model vette i have, (1975) plz lemme know. I dont know cars very well but i appriciate the vette alot, im a big fan of them. Maybe some of u techies can point me in the right direction as what steps to take into making this machine 100% again.

      Many thanks

Most owners manuals are sold by NCRS. If you are not a member you should be. Most literature is sold through NCRS at a very reasonable price.

There is a world of resources right here. Look at the top of this page for the link to merchandise. There you will find a wealth of information. Books, Judging Manuals, Service Manuals, and Owners Manuals. All at a discounted members price.

Call the phone number listed at the top of that page and you can join NCRS, and purchase a good starter kit for you library. You will also get a chance to talk to Eric Mortimer probably, and he is a great guy.

You have invested a lot of money, or you wouldn't have the corvette. Don't skimp on the resources to support it.

You should also take a look at the Restorer Magazine on CD. A huge resource of articles about NCRS and all model years of Corvette.

            Good Luck

              Ryan,

If I remember correctly, the slot on your alarm keyhole should be vertical for 'off' and 90 degrees to the right for 'armed'. As others have said, you really should think about joining NCRS if you are going to get into any serious restoration of the car, or are interested in your cars' history.

Re: whats this strange keyhole for?

Reprints of owner's manual are available from most major Corvette parts catalog houses (Corvette Central, Mid America, Paragon, Ecklers) as well as being items stocked in the NCRS Merchandise Library (main web site). If you haven't joined NCRS, a call to the Merchandise center in Cincinnatti can get you signed up over the phone and you'll find a wealth of support data available to members at a discount to teach/answer those other documentation questions....
