    Hose clamps for C1

I just got a complete set of correct hose clamps for my '59. I'm assuming that the Corbin clamps (spring clamps, like the heater hoses) go on the upper radiator hose and the band/tee clamps go on the lower hose. Is this correct? Thanks.

Kevin I beleive it is just the opposite. The Corbin clamps go on the bottom radiator hose and the band clamps go on the top. I think the early 59s used corbins on top and bottom and some time in 59 they switched to using the band types on the top hose. Actually looking it up Corbins on top until 12/10/58 production then type C clamps thru 1962. Lower hoses used corbin clamps 56-60 also called type E clamps.

            Pat,

My kit came with 4 for the 5/8 heater hose, and 4 for the 3/4 heater hose. I think that leaves two extra for the 3/4 hose.

Ok all, it appears that the Corbin clamps go on the bottom hose, and the T style clamps go on the top hose. Why did GM do it this way?

                Kevin...

Good Clamp information in Noland Adams Book. Not sure if he explains "why" however. Some of the Clamp kits also cover the Reserve Tank and the heater unit under the dash.

All the original clamps do a good job, however if the car is a "diver", it is best not to use a Tower (wittek) hose clamp for the lower radiator hose, GM designed very little room for collapsing the tower during removal.
