    C2 frame finishing

My 67 frame has minor rust pitting. The damage is cosmetic. Does anybody have a method of filling the pits? The frame will be sandblasted. One thought would be to spray DP 90 on the bare metal, followed by sanding primer, sanding and applying a top coat. My concern is that the top coat will chip, revealing the lighter colored sanding primer. I have never seen a black sanding primer.

    Any ideas?

Randy, I have always used the DP-90 on the bare metal, a heavy build primer/surfacer like K-36 sanding it back down to the DP, leaving no build of primer on the flat surfaces. I would them go back over with another light coat of DP making sure that the bare surfaces got another good coat. Inspect the areas of pitting. If need so, go over these areas again with the K-36 and block. Once you are happy with the frame reduce the DP per the instructions and use it as a sealer. I always used Deltrom black (9300 I believe) flattened to egg shell gloss. Gave a nice look without being so shiney, A very durable finish.

Thank you for the info. How much flatner did you use for the top coat?

I flatten according to the directions provided with the flattener. I cannot remember the part# of the flattener, but your PPG jobber should either have it one the shelf or be able to order it for you. Be sure to mix the flattener before you try to add it to the paint. It is a high solids liquid that has a tendency to settle out. Sorry for not being able to tell you how much to add, but I suffer from a severe case of NCRS (never can remember squat) disease and usually forget what I am talking about before I finish the sentence .

BTW a note on the previous post. Try to not to apply too much material when you are doing the DP on the frame. Just a few mils is all that you need.
