I have always owned midyear cars, but am considering a 1979 for another driver/fun car. I've heard some horror stories from former C3 owners about these cars being leakers in the rain and difficult to seal. Can anyone offer a different opinion, or for that matter confirm that? Thanks.

Re: C3 Opinions
My '78 never leaked. Not ever. One day I decided it was time to put in a new "un-road rashed" windshield.... alas rotten windshield posts, overhead windshield frame and, nightmare of nightmares, the inner door post from the bottom of the windshield to about 10" above the main frame. Who'd a guessed? Remove and look under the inner post and upper windshield trim and also up inside the foot panel on both sides of the car with a light and a mirror. Isn't fun nor cheap replacing all these parts, doors and front clip off the car...still working on it. Play it safe and look hard.

Re: C3 Opinions
I have heard this about the '68s and early C3s, but along with that I heard that Chevy got this issue under control pretty quickly, so later C3s should be no real problem. My '81 has some very small leaks at the back of the door that cause me to have to dry a small area of carpet after I wash the car, but I've certainly had worse.- Top

Re: C3 Opinions
3-4 and 55 Corvettes were called bath tubs , must be because they started out white. It took me some time , first using old factory dealer recommendation (doors seal fix) plus making every thing fit right (side windows) plus soft top flaps that no one repro's yet ,that I added and we never got wet when we drove to NY and back to Ca. twice. The only time water gets in is if the vett is stopped pointing up hill and you open the doors. Water from the top body door area builds up with water. Many dealers and owners (drilled a hole in that area and ran a copper tubing down behind the kick panel and out the bottom body to solve that. I remember 3,4,5 owner at the start of NCRS thinking that was factory original.- Top

Re: C3 Opinions
Oh yes... My 71 roadster had a nasty habit of leaking at the top of the windshield header. It found its way to the mldg screw directly above my lap on the drivers side and would drip directly down to my crotch. First time this happened I had light colored pants on and boy did that look bad getting out of the car.- Top
