    Re: points again

    Lyndon -

The strut rods carry five originality points, so you'd lose one point for configuration (larger ends/bushings). If you shoot an e-mail to Roy Sinor (after the Winter Regional), he'll e-mail the scoring sheets for your year car back to you in .pdf format that show the point allocations in detail.

      Tire Size vs Gas Mileage???

Lyndon, For what it's worth, I went thru my first NCRS Judging about 3 years ago, on my 1st ever Corvette! In the very little time I spent asking about judging, usually with people who really didn't have a clue, I was told to clean it up with Q-tips, take it to the Chapter Meet, and see what the experts had to say.

After the Chapter Meet, I had a set of score sheets listing the things that fell short, either on condition, or originality, and used these to prepare for the next event. It was quickly clear, that there were things that were incorrect, that were easy and cheap to fix, such as license plate screws, fire extinguisher, and the like. And others like a replacement spring, brakes, and shocks that I couldn't see spending the bucks for, and a 165mph speedo (85 is correct for an 82) that I didn't want to replace.

So, there are some items I will never replace, and the cheap and easy that I did before the next meet. But I put my effort where I gained the most points. For example, licence plate screws were 8 points. Easy to fix. And offset the loss of points for the speedo, or non original battery. Unless you are willing to possibly replace your rear struts, spend your time getting wax out of the tail light lenses, use some Mr Green or whatever with a soft brush to remove the corrosion from your alternator. Then after getting your car judged, you will have a much better feel for what you need or want to change to improve your score. If you get a Third Flight, you will still have the score sheets, showing you the areas to improve, and see which items will give you the most points for the money/time.

One last thing. If your car is original, don't change out things that may affect it's chance at a Star/Bowtie Award down the road.

      Good Luck on your judging!
