    Fuel lines on 57 & 61 Vettes

Should the fuel lines from tank to fuel pump on solid axle Corvettes be painted or unpainted?

Art, The frames started down the assembly line already painted black. The fuel lines were attached to the frame rails during the assembly process. Therefore the fuel (and brake) lines along with the attaching hardware are not painted. (read that as natural steel).

If you will look at Noland Adams' book, you will see in the pictures that some of the lines did get black paint on them when the frame was painted.

From my point of view, unless the judges change the way they inspect the cars, they could be green. When the 55 was judged, it was in a field, it was hot and nasty and I don't remember anyone getting under that beast far enough to tell what color the frame was! Mine were as mentioned natural, not painted.

What really puzzled them was how I managed to re-chrome the air cleaner and put a new element in it?

I, for one, would appreicate some further information on "when" that might have happened. Please remember that not all of the photos in Noland's books are GM photos.

Re: Fuel lines on 57 & 61 Vettes - Natural Ste

Frames were painted at the frame supplier - no frame painting was done at St. Louis. The lines should be natural steel finish.
