    Rally wheels

Can anyone tell me what backspace 15x7 early Corvette/Monte Carlo Rally wheels are available in? I've seen 3 1/2" and 4" but some are saying 4 1/2" also.

    Frank...

I well look it up, but my memory is that 1969 wheels were 4 1/2 inch...

'69 Corvette Rally wheels are 8" and have -0.50" offset.

'68 Corvette 7" Rally wheels have -0.28" offset.

IIRC the Camaro/Monte Carlo 7" Rallys are closer to zero offset. Corvette wheels needed negative offset to provide clearance for the ends of the rear spring.

Duke ... What about the trim rings for the 68 and 69. I have looked at some trim rings that have a ridge on the outer lip and go back to the center of the wheel at an angle but very flat. The rings on my 71 were more rounded at the edge and looked deeper. I understand they should have the clips to secure them. Are the 68 trim rings a one year only? are the 69 rings close enough to pass?

I think the '68 trim rings are unique, and the later trim rings for 8" wheels are wider, but I am certainly no expert on C3 Rally wheel trims rings, so, hopefully, someone with more knowledge will respond.

            Duke...

I'm thinking that the offset is on the rear side of the rim, measured from the rim edge to the bolt hole surface. Straighten me out?

              Re: Rally wheels

Zero offset means that the wheel mounting plane is dead center between the the tire bead mounting flanges. Negative offset moves the rim outboard relative to the spider so the outside of the wheel will be "deeper" than the inside.

"Backspacing" is not a precise dimension because it will vary depending on the bead flange material thickness and design geometry.
