Rebuilding C1 horns...

I see C Central offers a rebuild kit for under $40, is it much of a job to do?
What special tools are needed? Any recommendations for horn rebuilders in case I chicken out? Thanks again. Pat G.

Zip products used to offer a rebuilding kit for C2's and I ordered one. I don't know if CC offers a similar kit or a different one.

Here is what I know about C2's; maybe there is some translation to your c1. The Zip kit required good "membranes" either from your horn or a donor. It was a PITA to drill out the rivets on the two halves of the horn shell but, if done carefully, yielded two good halves. In addition, all the kit gave me was two gaskets, enough rivets to join them together again, and instructions. Once together they needed to be tuned using the small doohickey on the back. I have had mixed results doing this. the alternative though is a fairly pricey rebuild from one of the gents in The Driveline.

Dennis Portka restored my horns and did an excellent job. They look and sound great. He also has a special die to duplicate the factory waffle pattern on the rivets.

I had Ron Goralki rebuild my #441 &442 horns. He did a great job and he has a very liberal warranty policy. I fried my rebulit ones while replacing a relay. I called him up to repair them and he said " bring them to me and Ill replace them no charge. **** happens". (410) 987 1948.
