I'm a little hazy on the use of these rare parts and I'd like to get feedback. Conventional wisdom says they were a one year / one use item ('65 K66 cars with C60, which limits to L76 and L79 cars). Indeed, my '70 Corvette Parts Manual says # 1116378 is for K66/C60 combos, '65 only. But I suspect that by 1970 this # may be a SERVICE #, and that no '65's left St.Louis with this part #.
I postulate this from the 3 NOS examples I have; (1116368 -dated 4K; 1116374 -dated 5C; and 1116378 -dated 7J), all identical in external appearance. Also, it only appears in the '65 AIM (under the K66 option) as # 1116368, and view "B" indicates use for L76/79 w/C60. In the '66 AIM, it shows as the choice for NON-AIR, TI cars (C60 w/K66 calls for the standard # 1119515 regulator). In the '67 AIM, section K66, there is a revision removing reference to 1116368 and 1119515; ie. K66 had no effect on the choice of voltage regulator. Note that in all 3 years of AIM's, there is NO reference to # 1116374 or 378.
Jack H. has previously mentioned they were used sporadically on EARLY L78's, as the Car & Driver road test photo confirms.
Do any original cars have TI volt regs OTHER than 1116368, and if so, what is the date stamp ? Excuse me if this is addressed in the NCRS '65 Tech Manual, as mine is out on loan.
If Loren Lundberg is tuned in, I know he has studied this subject and may be able to help.
Thanks
