Hi everyone let me start off by saying that I'm new to corvettes and I'm in the market to purchase my first one.I'm currently looking at a 1976 stingray that needs some work,and I was wondering what are some things I should be looking out for,any information would be greatly appreciated.

Frame and birdcage rust is a good place to start, if that is OK, then you may want to check all the "numbers" to see if they are original or not. If the numbers are not original (and you don't care anyway) this can help with price negociation.
Have a look in the archives for information on frame rust, it's a frequent topic on this board. For the birdcage, I usually pull off the kickpanels in the footwells and look at the pillar posts. If they are shot, you may want to pass on this particular car ($$$$$ to fix)

Clarence, I recommend you a)join NCRS and your regional chapter; b)take advantage of the good prices on the many good publications offered by NCRS; c)read this Discussion Board every day; d) look at as many cars as you can to get a 'feel' for what is good and what is not; e)decide what you expect from Corvette ownership BEFORE you buy a car.
All aspects of Corvette ownership are fun (I, too, am a newbie) as long as you know what you want to attain. Me, I think there will be nothing better than waxing it up before cruising through the Black Forest or the Alps with the top down on a gorgeous summer day... Can't winter go a bit faster?
