My 64 VIN 40867S107127 has a block number of 3959512, and a front pad number of CE3N42352 S1206XCB. The intake and exhaust manifold numbers refer to a 300HP,PG,w/AC. The intake date and the body dates correspond to Dec. 1963. The trim #'s and paint #'s are correct also. Also, the carb #'s refers to the Carter AFB which is also correct. Seems to me that just the block was replaced, but what do I exactly have ????? Any help will be appreciated.

Re: CE MYSTERY BLOCK
George-----
This subject and block casting number have come up before. Although some references call out this casting number as having been used in the early 60s, GM #3959512 is about a 1969-issued number. As far as I know, this number was used for 327 cid blocks produced from about 1969 until 1973. So far, every one of these that's been discussed have been "CE" engines. It's possible that this number was only used for SERVICE engine assemblies or, it's possible that this was primarily a truck block which was also used for SERVICE engine assemblies. I know for sure that it was never used in a Corvette(which makes sense since 327s were not used in Corvettes after the 1968 model year).
You didn't mention which heads were on your car. That would be interesting. Also, the block casting date would be interesting to me. You can find that date on the bellhousing flange on the opposite side to the side where you found the casting number.
One thing that is also interesting about the information which you provided is your engine's "XCB" "suffix code". "X"-prefixed suffix codes were used on a lot of Chevrolet, over-the-counter, complete engine assemblies. That's why I'm interested in your block's casting date and your cylinder head casting number and dates. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: CE MYSTERY BLOCK
Joe, I can barely see the block casting date because of the shielding and distributor. Also, I have yet to remove the head covers. I'm abit of a novice, so I'd better wait for my experienced buddy to help. I'll write you back as soon as I do. Thanks, George- Top
